Seniors vs Crime Project -Mission and Objectives
The Primary Mission of the Seniors Vs Crime Project is " to reduce the victimization of senior citizens who are targeted for specific crimes or scams based on their age." The Project accomplishes this mission by focusing on three primary objectives:
1. The Seniors vs Crime Project provides education for the members of your organization or group through various scam and crime prevention programs tailored for any size group.
The majority of the Speaker's Bureau education engagements are requested by senior community groups such as homeowner associations, church or civic groups, clubs, senior centers, and senior events. Each presentation allows adequate time for questions and answers, which were usually very animated.
Additionally, the Speaker's Bureau arranges for radio or TV presentations and discussions, including videos for senior education or law enforcement training.
A popular education program presented by the Speaker's Bureau is investor protection. This program is provided in cooperation with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). Over 100,000 people have attended.
2. The Seniors vs Crime Project investigates complaints and seeks restitution for seniors in appropriate instances, free of charge. All monies recovered go to the complainant.
The Seniors vs Crime Project handles thousands of cases for seniors every year. Since the opening of the first local Project Offices in 2001, local Project Offices have handled more than 39,000 cases, and recovered over $16,000,000 in real dollars plus over $12,000,000 in realized gain for Florida seniors.
That is a total of $28,000,000 for Florida seniors that would have otherwise been lost without our intervention!
If you are involved in a civil situation and you request assistance, the Senior Sleuths assigned to your case will do everything possible to reach a settlement without cost to you and without public or family embarrassment. Senior Sleuths are successful in a high percentage of cases.
3. The Seniors vs Crime Project provides senior volunteers with the opportunity to work in a project office to assist other seniors and learn new skills.
Volunteering with the Seniors vs Crime Project provides an opportunity for seniors to meet other seniors who are interested in preventing the victimization of our citizens. Volunteers also feel a sense of personal reward because they engage with other seniors who need assistance - it's seniors helping seniors.
Volunteers learn about scams, civil complaints, and/or criminal techniques that are targeting their local communities. Volunteers that enjoy public speaking have the opportunity to join the Speakers Bureau and educate other seniors.
Office volunteers also learn new skills or refresh pre-retirement skills. These include computer skills, arbitration skills, public speaking, writing, etc.
